Must Attend Event: TFI New Labels Competition – Tickets 95% sold out!
Each year I am always curious to find out who the four future fashion design stars will be competing for the Most Promising New Label in the Toronto Fashion Incubator‘s TFI New Labels Competition. As Canada’s longest running design competition, which started in 1992, it has kickstarted the careers of many of Canada top design talent, including Juma, Sid Neigum, Sarah Stevenson, David Dixon, Caitlin Power, Joeffer Caoc, and so many more.
Congratulations to this year’s finalists!

What sets the TFI News Labels competition apart from the rest is the intensity of the application and selection process, it’s not just a competition, it’s an incredible opportunity for emerging designers to be mentored throughout the six-month long process by some of the industry’s most discerning and respected members. Designers are given invaluable knowledge on what is needed to develop a newsworthy and marketable a label, how to edit a collection (so important!), and what is involved in planning a fashion show event. This year’s judges include co-founder of TNT, Arie Assaraf, fashion director at FLARE Magazine Tiyana Grulovic, fashion designer David Dixon and philanthropist Suzanne Rogers.
The winner receives a $25,000 cash prize for Most Promising New Label presented by Suzanne Rogers (we love you Suzanne!), an exclusive editorial in FLARE Magazine and production of a look book for their winning collection, provided by beauty partners COVERGIRL and Pantene.
This year’s event takes place at the historic One King West (which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year!) on Monday, May 5th. The evening starts at 8pm with an open bar (yay!) and hors d’oeuvres. The show, emceed by none other that Ms. Jeanne Beker, starting at 9pm. If you love fashion and supporting our emerging talent, you just cannot miss this event.
Don’t have your tickets yet? They are 95% sold out, so I highly recommend getting them now!
Net ticket sale proceeds from the fashion show will benefit the TFI, a non-profit, community-based, small business centre that provides critical support to fashion entrepreneurs.
