Toronto celebrates Fashion’s Night Out 2012

Top up that credit card, grab your besties and hop around some of Toronto’s best shops to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out!

Toronto retailers have been slow in the past in registering for Fashion’s Night Out (FNO), but not this year. Social media is all a flutter over VOGUE‘s recession buster coming to Toronto in a big way, but it’s not the first time that it has happened in our city, or in Canada, for that matter.

When FNO launched in 2009, The Bay was quick to participate by hosting events in seven of their stores across Canada, including Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary. In the media release, the then CEO of The Bay, Bonnie Brooks said, “As Canada’s leading fashion department store, we are very excited to be included in this global event along with retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Lord & Taylor, designed to stimulate the retail and fashion industries. It’s time to get Canadian consumers excited about shopping again and we’re the only retailer in Canada participating.” In 2010, Holt Renfrew‘s Bloor Street location was selling official FNO t-shirts for $25. Then there was nothing it seemed. Until this year.

With the guidance of a tirelessly dedicated committee with representatives from the City of Toronto, the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI), Rac Boutique, and Peacock Parade, and the assistance of the Business Improvement Areas, the city is getting the Fashion’s Night Out they’ve been pining so long for.

Being the opening night of TIFF, this will be, I predict, one of the busiest event nights of the year, maybe even right up there after New Year’s Eve.

While the list of events may seem overwhelming, I’ve put together my top picks of events to hit. Expect complimentary cocktails, treats, great fall merchandise, music, and fun. A great night to take in the city and get to know some retailers you may not have visited before. For a full listing of official retailers and full details, visit
