I was lucky enough to attend the 2nd annual White Knight gala with two of my favourite gals, Anita Clarke and Ainsley Kerr at a gorgeous private estate on the Bridal Path on May 27th. (The gala benefits Free The Children’s youth empowerment program, GO Local and was founded through the Ron White Foundation.) The driveway to the house was covered with a long white carpet and lined with candles and servers greeting us with a glass of champagne – now that’s the way I like to be welcomed.
At the end of the white carpet, we were interviewed by eTalk’s Ben Mulroney who asked us who we were wearing… on our feet. (The invitation stated “All White Summer Cocktail Attire paired with your most outrageous and colourful shoes”.) Ainsley was in her Brian Attwood purple and gold platform pumps which she picked up at the designer’s recent visit to The Room (and even got a shout out on Shinan’s column!), Anita was in her gorgeous moss-green and gold Alexander McQueen heels and I wore my fave Betsey Johnson metallic polka dot heels.
We nibbled on the yummy treats floating around the gardens by Jamie Kennedy and drank from apparently bottomless champagne glasses. Looking over the crowd gathering on the garden paths was quite the sight – everyone (except very, very few) were in all white. It was super pretty.
I spied in the crowd fashion designer David Dixon (check out his hand-painted shoes above), Canada AM’s Seamus O’Reagan (he’s so nice!), Singapore singer Celest Chong, actor Kristin Booth, event hosts George Stroumboulopoulos and Leslie Roberts, CBC’s Steven and Chris (they say hi, mum!), performers The Canadian Tenors (hello, boys!), and Advisory Board member Glenn Dixon and Suzanne Rogers (I *heart* her.) I even got the chance to chat briefly with Anne Mroczkowski who told me she was very excited about her new adventure ahead with CTV. (She was glowing!)
During the live auction, presentation and performances, all 350 or so of us gathered in the pool house, with many of us actually sitting on top of their pool which had been covered up for the night. The weather held out perfectly for us and the vibe from everyone was welcoming and friendly and I had the chance to meet some super nice people. Thank you Anita for having me as her guest to such a wonderful event.
