My List of The Most Romantic Movies of All-Time

February 15, 2011

In honour of yesterday’s Valentine’s Day celebrations, I made a list of some of my favourite romantic movies of all-time; in absolutely no order of any kind. Most are heart-wrenching love stories, some are just good Hollywood fun.

Gone With The Wind

Best line: “No, I don’t think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That’s what’s wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.”

Love Story

Best line: “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”

An Affair To Remember

Best line: “The Empire State Building is the closest thing to heaven in this city.”

When Harry Met Sally

Best line: “Men and women can’t be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.”

It Happened One Night

Best line: “I want to see what love looks like when it’s triumphant. I haven’t had a good laugh in a week.”

Princess Bride

Best line: “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.”

Tristan and Isolde

Best line: “You were right. I don’t know if life is greater than death. But love was more than either.”

Last of the Mohicans (WARNING: Ending spoiler – don’t watch unless you’ve seen it! Oh, and it’s also quite violent too. )

Best line: “Take me!”

Love Actually

Best line: “But you know, the thing about romance is… people only get together right at the very end.”

Moulin Rouge

Best line: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

The English Patient

Best line: “I promise, I’ll come back for you. I promise, I’ll never leave you.”

Romeo & Juliet

Best Line: “Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again.”

Wuthering Heights (Some fabulous person has put the entire movie on YouTube – watch it before it’s taken down.)

Best line: “I am Heathcliff! He’s always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.”

The Notebook

Best line: “I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you everyday for a year.”

Iris (Another kind soul has posted *almost* the entire movie.)

Best line: “There is only one freedom of any importance, freedom of the mind.”

Away From Her

Best line: “I never wanted to be away from her.”

Evita

Best line: “I’d be surprisingly good for you.”

What Dreams May Come

Best line: “What’s true in our minds is true, whether some people know it or not.”

The End of An Affair (Another full YouTube movie!)

Best line: “Love doesn’t end, just because we don’t see each other.”

Adele got it right, “Sometimes it lasts in love, sometimes it hurts instead.” Excuse me while I go cry in a ball in the corner…

What are some of your all-time favourite romantic movies?
